Stay-home mission trip helps over 27 families

Last week members of the Lake Orion Church of Christ lent a helping hand to the community with Mission Possible, the church’s stay-home mission trip.
Throughout the week the group traveled to various homes and helped out the homeowners. The children weeded out flower gardens and visited the elderly. Teenagers participated in a ‘delandscaping crew,? removing over-grown bushes and trees. The adults worked on an assortment of projects, including roof repairs, yard work and interior repairs.
At one house two groups from Mission Possible removed unwanted landscaping, weeded a garden, pruned trees, cleared off an overgrown patio, replanted a flower bed and worked on the front yard’s drainage system. This was all done between 8 a.m. and noon. Homeowner Sue Van Messel said it was ‘awesome,? adding ‘I can’t believe what they’ve done in a few hours.?
Julie Boyd, of Lake Orion, was part of the kitchen crew, who woke up around 4:30 a.m. each day to start breakfast. Boyd said the best part of Mission Possible watching her kids learn that church is not defined by a building but by the people.
This year Mission Possible helped over 27 families.
‘Last year was successful, this year’s been better,? said Randy McClure, who helped organize the projects. ‘If we get a chance to reach out to the community we’re happy about that.?
