Steppin? out

Goodrich – Perfume and ribbons wafted through Oaktree cafe when more than 400 turned out for the first Goodrich Daddy-Daughter Dance.
From the Chicken Dance to ‘Butterfly Kisses,? girls in velvet and satin stepped out Feb. 12 with daddies, grandfathers, uncles, and big brothers.
‘They made a great memory,? said Lisa Bertrand, who helped organize the dance.
The event, a fund-raiser for the Class of 2006, was started by Goodrich students with fond memories of attending nearby daddy-daughter dances.
While elementary-age daughters ruled the dance floor in tiaras and flowers, girls from preschool to middle school came out, as well as a teacher who attended with her father. A keepsake daddy-daughter photo was matted and framed to remember the evening.
Dance chairperson Sheryl Engleman made the evening special with her ‘great attention to detail,’said Bertrand.
Nearly $1,000 was raised for the prom, with a turnout of 250 girls and 188 men dancing to ballads and beats by disc jockey Craig Chambers of Rush Entertainment, who extended the music when dancers didn’t want to go home.
Although no date has been set for next year’s daddy-daughter dance, it’s definitely destined to become a Goodrich tradition, Bertrand said.
‘It was a great success, we were thrilled.?
