It’s official. A recent count of the student population shows there are 7,710 students enrolled in the Lake Orion School District.
According to LO School Superintendent Dr. Craig Younkman, that’s an increase of 157 from the 2002-03 school year. For budget purposes, an increase of 150 students had been projected.
“Growth in the township is beginning to flatten out,” he added. “Elementary schools have leveled. We’re right at the 600 mark (excluding LOHS) at the schools”
This year 509 children were enrolled in kindergarten, 60 in Young 5’s. At the end of school in June, there were 573 kids in the kindergarten program. Younkman said it’s normal to pick up kindergarten students during the school year.
LOHS will be graduating 444 seniors next June. Current 8th graders, who will be freshman at the high school next year, total 610.
