Students honored for citizenship

Megan Schnell of Andersonville Elementary and Audrey Parker of Bailey Lake Elementary earned their schools’ Outstanding Student Citizen Award for the year.
Sponsored by the Clarkston Area Optimist Club, the award honors one student a year from Clarkston elementary schools.
“It’s a very hard decision to make, but a whole lot of fun,” said Bruce Martin, Andersonville principal.
“It’s a difficult thing to do, but I love the problem,” said Principal Glenn Gualtieri of Bailey Lake. “Audrey rose to the top.”
Schnell, a fourth grader and anchor of the student news video program, joined Andersonville Elementary this school year.
“We hit the jackpot with this one ? she is a wonderful addition to the school,” Martin said.
“Megan comes to school every day with a positive attitude. She’s here to learn,” said her teacher Kate Jordan, 4-5 grade. “She always shares her thinking. She always puts others before herself.”
She reaches out to help her classmates.
“She’s a great all-around student,” Jordan said. “I’m happy to have her in my class.”
“I feel proud of myself,” said Megan, daughter of Rob and Kim Schnell. “I’m a pretty positive person. I like to learn and I like school. It’s fun.”
Parker, fifth grader and daughter of Matt and Christy Parker, makes a positive difference in fellow students? lives at Bailey Lake, serving as president of the student council, and competing on basketball, soccer, and softball teams.
“She is someone who has made an unbelievable difference at Bailey Lake. She has the disposition to change the world,” said Principal Glenn Gualtieri.
“Audrey is a great role model,” said her teacher, Holly Kornas. “She lifts people up daily in class, especially when they need it the most.”
“I’m very proud of her,” Christy said. “She continues to surprise me at school. I think she will continue to surprise me.”
“I think it’s just really fun, to make a difference in the community and help others out,” said Audrey. “It’s just something I like to do.”
