Brandon Twp.- The police substation here has officially entered the new millennium.
‘We’re in the 21st century in getting our surveillance system,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Pete Burkett. ‘We now have the capability to do interviews at the substation.?
A video surveillance system was installed this week by Absolute Sales, International, at a cost of about $1,164 for cameras in the lobby and parking lot of the substation and $2,148 for a camera in the new 6-by-6 interview room, which was formerly a closet.
All interviews can now be recorded at the substation, eliminating the need to go to OCSO headquarters in Pontiac to conduct interviews. Burkett adds that interviews of suspects and witnesses can now be placed on a flash drive and become an official part of police reports. Previously, they were transcribed and VHS copies were made, time-consuming endeavors.
‘Now it will be done in a flash,? Burkett said. ‘It saves time and is more professional.?
