A walk to benefit research for a rare disease called Ring 14 came together perfectly, according to Clarkston resident Belinda Belcher.
Belcher’s 13-year-old son, Cameron was diagnosed with the rare chromosome defect known as an ‘orphan disease? because only 60 people in America have been diagnosed.
‘The walk went very well, thanks to the support and help from so many,? Belcher said of the May 4 fund raiser walk. ‘What started out as a family, friends and neighborhood walk for Ring 14, turned into around 100 walkers, 21 donated gifts for the raffle and 20 donated pizzas.?
Another walk was held in Florida, both in hopes of raising $10,000 for Ring14USA.
Belcher said her neighbor, Paul Gill, also known as “Gator,” connected her to the Clarkston’s American Legion Post 63.
‘He also went out on his own an collected over $700 in pledges,? she said.
The walk went better than she had hoped.
Belcher thanked all participants and local businesses for helping.
‘American Legion helped by supplying us with crossing guards, the use of their facility, hot dogs, water and pop,? she said.
Despite not much time to prepare for the event, Belcher said everything went perfectly.
‘We raised $5,091 to send to Ring 14USA Outreach,? she smiled.
