Goodrich – New high pressure gas lines are being installed on Hegel Road in the village in preparation for roadwork to start on May 1.
A village meeting on March 6 brought residents, business owners and local officials together to discuss the project.
The Atlas Township fire and police departments along with Consumers Energy and Wade Trim who is providing the engineering, planning and surveying for the Hegel Road project, were in attendance.
The stretch of road, approximately 1,800 lineal feet, will be completely removed and replaced with new storm drains and curbs.
The Hegel Road work is located 30 feet east of Seneca Road to 30 feet west of the Goodrich Country Club. The downtown area of the village will not be affected.
Pete Morey, village street administrator, said the state paid for the entire project except for $42,000, which has already been paid by the village.
Although Morey is happy to get the worn out road finally replaced, he said residents need to be patient and can expect a detour and some delays on Hegel Road.
Goodrich Country Club General Manager Kim Easton said she is concerned about the impact the road construction will have on her business.
‘The road construction is going to be from May 1 through Aug. 18,? she said. ‘That’s golf season for us and in these tough economic times it is already hard enough trying to keep a business open. However, Zito, the construction company, said they are going to work with us as much as possible to keep the roads open.?
