Three bands, Third Rock, Lazy Mary, and Resist, performed at Independence Township Library’s Battle of the Bands, June 26.
“We had bands perform in our parking lot during the Summer Reading Kick-Off events in 2007 and 2008, but, because the Kick-Off events have become so busy and chaotic, we decided to make a separate music event,” said Tracy Malek, teen librarian. “The local schools often host talent shows and music events, which are very popular. So, as the teen librarian, I wanted to see the library host a Battle of the Bands for the teens and their families.”
All participants received a $20 Borders gift certificate and Summer Reading program T-shirt.
“I hope we can continue to have this event in the parking lot each summer,” Malek said. “Hopefully it will grow so we can have more performers and a bigger audience.”
