It was a dark and stormy morning.
At least that’s how the day began on Saturday, July 11. Still, nearly 75 participants showed up to take part in the Lake Orion Rotary Club’s Dual-a-thon, which was sponsored by Main Street Bicycles in Oxford.
Event registration was wet and dreary, but just as the dual-a-thon was set to start the sun began peeking out of the clouds and the rain abruptly halted.
The dual-a-thon started and finished at Atwater Park in Lake Orion and consisted of a 5K run, 20K bicycle section and another 5K run.
The money raised at the dual-a-thon will be donated to Beds for Kids.
Greg Partamian, who helped put on the dual-a-thon this year and who represented Crittenton Hospital, said ‘A lot of families are hurting right now, and kids are sleeping on floors.?
Money will also be donated to the PolioPlus project, which aims as eradicating polio from the earth.
‘Water, literacy, health and hungry issues are star points of Rotarians to work toward in their motto of Service above Self,? sad Peggy Bartz, past president and participant in the dual-a-thon.
