Support Senate Bill 919: help the disabled military veterans

To the editor:
The members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 582, Ortonville, applaud the introduction of Senate Bill 919 that was introduced by Senator Glenn Anderson and co-sponsored by Senator Gilda Jacobs that would give municipalities the option to eliminate property taxes for disabled military veterans at or below the poverty level. This bill would require a single veteran to have an annual income of $20,420 or less to qualify.
The intent here is to help people stay in their homes. We hope that local governments will be very receptive to this.
This bipartisan bill seeks to address the trend of rising homelessness among veterans. One in every four homeless people is a veteran, according to a recent report.
On behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 582, Ortonville, we urge your support of Senate Bill 919.
Thank you.
