Supt. Skilling issues statement regarding home sale, future plans

Oxford Schools Superintendent Dr. William Skilling no longer lives at 45 Park St. in the Village of Oxford.
On Sept. 25, Oxford Township received Skilling’s ‘Request to Rescind Homeowner’s Principal Residence Exemption,? a public document that pertains to property taxes.
It shows his home has a new owner.
While the sale of his home has been closed, Skilling told this reporter in a written statement, that he and his wife, Nancy, along with their son, Zac, still reside in the village.
‘We have rented a place in which to live for the remainder of time I will be serving Oxford Community Schools as superintendent,? Skilling wrote.
After months of speculation and questions, the superintendent finally gave a little insight as to his future plans..
‘It has been our dream and desire to retire near our children and extended family,? he explained. ‘Northern Georgia happens to be the perfect location to allow us to be near our children, who are actively serving in the armed forces, our daughter who teaches fourth grade in Georgia, and my immediate family.?
According to Skilling, they had been searching for a retirement home in the south for the past couple years. After praying about their financial stewardship, they concluded they wanted to put themselves in the best possible position to make their ‘retirement dreams a reality when the time comes.?
‘We decided to use the strong real estate market to our advantage and tested the waters by posting our home in an unconventional manner, on Craigslist,? Skilling wrote in his statement. ‘When we moved to Oxford, we sold our previous home in the worst economy in our lifetime where home values were dropping dramatically. We did not want to repeat that experience.?
He also added that they are ‘excited and blessed? to have a future retirement home close to where their children and grandchildren and extended family will be living. While living here in Oxford, his daughter Kelsey, a fourth-grade teacher is currently residing in the Georgia home.
Skilling reiterated that they will continue to live in Oxford until he retires.
When is retirement?
At this time, Skilling said he has not made ‘any decision as to when to retire,? but that it will ‘be sometime within the current contract, not to exceed 2019.?
According to his extended contract, which was signed in April, Skilling is to be the superintendent until 2016, but after that date his position could be changed.
‘It is expressly understood that the Board of Education may assign/transfer the Superintendent, commencing July 1, 2016 or any time thereafter, to the position of Superintendent Emeritus of International Programs, Global Outreach and Fund Development,? states his contract.
‘We still have an eleventh grade son who is attending Oxford High School,? he noted.
Once his son, Zac, graduates, he plans to attend Truett McConnell College in Northern Georgia, where he will be pursuing a career in youth ministry.
‘Nancy and I continually thank the community members who respected our privacy as we were in the midst of delicate choices that affect our future,? Skilling said. ‘We have been truly blessed to work here, live here and have three of our children attend Oxford Community Schools.?
