Swim team places 6th at league meet

The Oxford Wildcat Swimmers finished their regular season placing sixth at the Feb. 27 league meet.
‘It was an incredibly close league meet. Seven points separated first and second place. 30 points separated third and seventh place,? explained Coach Jackie Rank. ‘When Oxford faced Rochester High School in the dual meet earlier in the season, Rochester defeated Oxford by one point. Unfortunately, Rochester beat Oxford in the league meet by three points. Oxford finished in sixth place, nine points ahead of Rochester Stoney Creek High School who defeated Oxford in the dual meet earlier in the season by seven points.?
The scores were Clarkston ? 412, West Bloomfield ? 405, North Farmington ? 258, Farmington-Harrison ? 255, Rochester High School -240, Oxford – 237 and Rochester Stoney Creek – 228
In the 200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Stresky, Vega, Terry, and Scribner took fourth with a new school record time of 1:43.98.
200 Individual Medley: Chad Scribner took eleventh with a new personal record of 2:12.43. 50 Freestyle: Sean Terry finished in third with a new personal record of 22.22, just .09 off the school record.
Diving: Jared Tasch crushed the school record with a score of 430.30. This score put him in 1st place, almost 135 points ahead of the second place finisher. Brandon Barrows finished in 3rd place with a personal best score of 288.55. 100 Butterfly: Armando Vega took 8th place with a time of 1:00.43. 100 Freestyle: Cheyne Stresky took first place with a new personal best time of 47.62, which is .05 off the school record. Sean Terry took fourth place with a personal best, and state qualifying, time of 49.15.
200 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Butler, Scepka, Tasch (Jared), and Tasch (Jake) took 7th with a time of 1:41.64.100 Backstroke: Cheyne Stresky took firsst place with a new Oxford School Record and a new Clarkston Pool Record time of 53.43.
400 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Terry, Vega, Scribner, and Stresky came in third with a time of 3:22.20.
Next up, two more weeks of training, Diving Regionals for Jared Tasch and Brandon Barrows on Thursday, March 5 (top 12 in each Region move on to the State Meet), probably a last chance meet for the swimmers on Sunday, March 8, and then the State Meet on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
