Swimmers keep breaking records

The Lake Orion Liquid Lightning swim team finished their six-team league season with a strong showing at the MCSL Championship meet, at L’Anse Creuse High School on March 19.
The team had nearly 100 participants, and placed second with 785.5 points. Utica Shelby won the event with 822 points.
The boys team took first with 431 points, and the girls were second with 354.5 in their respective competitions.
Both scores and the combined team score were the highest ever for LOLL at the MCSL Championships.
The individual highlights included Devon Nowicki’s first-place finish in the boys 8 & unders, Zach Limb placing 3rd and Brandon Nowicki placing 4th in the 9-10.
Drew Fritsch tied for 2nd, and Ben Limb finished 4th in the 11-12; while Petar Simic came in 3rd in the 13-14 boys division.
On the girls side, Bethany Abramczyk was 4th in the girls 8 & unders, Ronnie Booth finished 2nd and Sarah Beargie placed 4th in the 11-12 girls.
Christine Boyle and Emily Roesch tied for 3rd in the 15-18 division.
The 13 & over swimmers then travelled to Jenison High School for the State Championship meet March 24-26.
LOLL had 17 swimmers compete, and finished 35th overall with 21 points.
Simic placed 65th overall in the boys 13-14 division, breaking LOLL team records in both the 200 butterfly (14th overall) and the 200 breaststroke (24th overall).
Lauren Barber finished 36th in the 100 breaststroke, setting a new team record.
All of the state relay teams set new team records as well.
In the fall-winter season, the LOLL set 130 new records and one-third of the team qualified for states.
