Swimmers over Athens, tank to Groves

The Lake Orion boys swimming and diving team started out the week on a positive note, defeating Troy Athens, 98-88 at home on Jan. 18, before losing to Birmingham Groves, also at home, on Jan. 20, 114-72.
Against Athens, the Dragons had dominated 11 events, with the 200 medley relay team of David Brown, Pat Dodge, Andrew Kuehl and Andy Marcinkowski winning with a time of 1:53.44; and Garrett Ruhland taking the 200 freestyle (1:52.49), and the 500 freestyle (5:23.66).
Dodge won the 200 IM (2:16.66), and Brown took first in the 50 freestyle (23.39), and in the 100 backstroke (1:06.35). Brandon Figurski won the diving competition with a score of 222.15.
Also winning for Lake Orion was Ricky Forrest in the 100 butterfly (57.06), Kuehl in the 100 freestyle (52.90), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Ruhland, Forrest, Marcinkowski and Brown (3:40.84).
The Dragons took a 2-2 overall, 1-2 in OAA I record up against Groves, winning six events. Individual swimmers and one diver winning for Lake Orion were: Brown (200 freestyle, 1:50.19), Ruhland (50 freestyle, 22.55; 100 butterfly, 55.64), Figurski (diving, 227.85), and Forrest (500 freestyle, 4:50.54).
Lake Orion’s 200 freestyle relay team of Ruhland, Brown, Kuehl and Forrest also won, by a time of 1:32.66.
The Dragons swim at North Farmington on Thursday, and travel to the Oakland County Meet on Feb. 5.
