Swimmers heading to the state finals were calm as they practiced beating their times last Friday for the upcoming event.
Once they were out of the pool – the emotions all five felt were bubbling over.
They were excited.
‘They look really good. They have a very good opportunity to place at states,? said Wolves Swim Coach Kenwyn Chock.
‘What really helped this year was the girls swimming in Division 1. A lot of our competition was against the best swimmers in the state.?
Three swimmers competing in the individual events are making their return visit.
Senior Christine Seiple will be making her fourth appearance. She will be swimming in 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard backstroke, and swimming the backstroke in the 200 yard medley relay.
‘She has a really good chance to do really well,? said Chock.
Junior Julia Vela will be competing in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard IM in her third visit to states. She will also be swimming with both relay teams – 200 yard medley relay and 200 yard freestyle.
Junior Amber Fullmer will also be part of both relay teams and competing in the 100 yard backstroke in her second visit.
Senior Erika Gustafson and freshman Allison Garland are competing for the first time at states as part of the relay teams. Both will swim in the 200 freestyle and Garland will swim the breaststroke in the 200 medley relay.
‘We just wanted our senior year to be great and it ended on a great note,? said Seiple.
‘We’re hoping to do our best and make it to finals,? said Vela.
The MHSAA state finals take place this Friday with preliminaries and Saturday with the final events.
Division 1 schools will be competing at Eastern Michigan University.
Plans have already been set to celebrate finishing the preliminary rounds on Friday.
‘This time next week we will be on our way to lunch and a movie,? said Chock.
