Swimmers trying to take it easy, stay healthy

The Clarkston varsity girls
swim team powered past
Avondale for a decisive 128-58
victory in the CHS pool on Oct.
7. Freshman Kaitlyn Hassett,
sophomore Kandice Keen, and
senior Chelsea Hassett set
school records in the 200
freestyle, 200 individual medley
and 50 freestyle respectively.
‘We’re swimming well right
now because we are still setting
school records,? said Clarkston
Coach Kenwyn Chock.
A Clarkston swimmer finished
first in all but three of the
12 events against Avondale.
The true test for the team
this past week though has been
avoiding the pitfalls of a strenuous
schedule both in and out of
the pool. The meet on Thursday
was the fourth time in ten days
that the team had competed.
‘All swimmers are fatigued
right now,? said Chock, who
added that with progress reports
and homecoming the girls are
under mental and physical duress.
According to Chock, senior
captains Chelsea Hassett, Erin
Richards and Kelly Kiel have
helped pull the team through this
harrowing period in the schedule.
The captains recently organized
a practice in which the
team wore their summer two
piece bathing suits in lieu of their
normal drab practice attire.
?(The captains) have done
a good job of keeping morale up,?
said Chock.
The Wolves are now 5-3 in
dual meets and only compete
three more times prior to OAA
league preliminaries on Nov. 3.
The next dual meet is Oct. 14 at
Dondero.
