Girls U14 Travel Soccer Team, Independence Township Parks and Recreation, raised almost $1,000 for Lighthouse Emergency Services.
Coach Carl Schenten challenged the girls to raise donations for each goal or shutout. Nicknamed ‘Team Lighthouse,? the girls scored 38 goals and posted six shutouts, raising $967.
‘It really was a tremendous outpouring of generosity by the girls and their families,? said coach Rich Rock. ‘The girls did a wonderful thing and hopefully the giving spirit will be with them for years to come.?
The team purchases $847 worth of boxed and canned food and household supplies, and donated the remaining $120 to Lighthouse.
