Dear Editor:
First, I would like to state for the record that these are my words and only my words.
I am shocked at the extremes some of the people of Brandon Township went to to discredit everyone except the outgoing treasurer. Those of you who wrote the pack of lies, passed out the pack of lies, condoned and believed the pack of lies written and unsigned by cowards will one day regret what you have done. The harassment that the Oakland County Clerks? office, the Brandon Twp. Clerks? office and their election workers have endured is pathetic. The Brandon Township election employees stationed at Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 were right in supporting the Michigan Election Law regarding the 100-foot campaign rule. This has since been confirmed by the county. The fact that one group of people continually thought they were above the law and continually challenged our workers is a shame.
The citizens of Brandon Township have lost one of their biggest advocates in the primary election: Ron Lapp, supervisor. No one knows how many hours that Lapp and I have spent over the past eight years, agonizing and losing sleep over creating balanced budgets for this township without cutting services. How many of you remember the shape of the dirt roads in Brandon Township when Lapp came on board? Ron, I commend you for not bowing to all the special interest groups that have plagued you over the past years. Is he perfect? No. However, I believe he always weighed whether things were a benefit for all, because he truly believes in the welfare of the whole township and its residents.
I also commend Lapp, McCreery and Beltramo for not bowing down to the same dirty politics that many people condoned, and for running their campaigns with integrity.
Ron, when I came on board, you were just my employer. My husband Randy and I want to thank you for all of your support through the many trials I have endured over the years here at work and in my personal life.
Susan Chesnutt, bookkeeper for Brandon Township
