If you weren’t at the 2015 Lake Orion Winter Carnival last weekend, where the heck were ya?
The Lake Orion United Methodist Church, Lake Orion Rotary Club and local beer creators 51 North Brewery threw a hootin? good time downtown, involving an Ice Golf Challenge, Outhouse Races, and kids? activities for the gaggle of community members hollering in the streets.
‘It was the most fun I’ve had in an outhouse in three months,? said 2nd place winner and Lake Orion Lion Kevin Laidler, representing the Laidler and Zelinksi Law Office outhouse team. ‘It was extremely hard, we had to train months and months in advance, but it all paid off with our second place finish.?
Beating the attorney-porta-john was independent team Captain America for the gold toilet seat.
‘In our defense Captain America was on super steroids, we’ve all seen the show, but I don’t want to have sour grapes, whatever helps you win, I’m good with it,? Laidler said in good spirits, carrying home the silver toilet seat.
In third was Boy Scout Troop 366 of Oxford, who even after hitting a curb and losing a wheel, managed to beat out three other teams.
In first place for the Ice Golf Challenge, which brought almost 50 people and 12 teams to the 9-hole-sramble on Lake Orion, was the Orion Township Team, manned by Supervisor Chris Barnett, Operations Director Jeff Stout, Township Engineer Jim Stevens and Attorney Dan Kelly.
Overall, Lake Orion Lions Club President Bob Erickson said the event was one of the most fun he’s been to out in the cold, and pulled people into the streets that organizers had not expected.
‘People even brought chairs as if they were watching a parade,? he said. ‘We hope to make it four times bigger in the future.?
