The going is good for hockey

With two wins last week, the Wolves are off to a hot start on the ice.
Clarkston beat Waterford Mott 8-4 on Dec. 2 and the combined Royal Oak team 6-2 on Dec. 4 to push their league leading record to 4-0 (3-0).
The Wolves blew the game wide open against Royal Oak in the first period, scoring four goals and allowing none. Senior Trevor Johns had two goals in the first period deluge. Junior forward Kyle Chartrand and Senior forward Bryan Morin also scored early.
?(The Royal Oak game) gave us the chance to play some guys who normally don’t get a lot of playing time,? said Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘It was also good for us as we continue to move up in our league.?
Senior Goalie Michael Brach allowed two goals late in the third but according to Krygier played well in his bounce back game coming off Clarkston’s loss to Brighton in the Cranbrook Thanksgiving day tournament.
Johns finished with a hat trick adding another goal later in the second, Chartrand also scored another goal.
Chartrand and Johns have been on quite a roll recently. Both players put up some nice points in the Waterford Mott game as well
Johns also had a hat trick in the Wolves win over the Corsairs.
Chartrand was making noise too in the Mott game. With 2:11 left in the second period, he sent a defender sprawling into the net, knocking the goal off its mooring, putting the goalie flat on his back. Before the net was set free, Chartrand jammed the puck across the goal line. Chartrand’s goal changed what had been a tight 5-4 game to a comfortable Clarkston 6-4 lead. The goal also seemed to break Mott’s spirit – they barely threatened the Wolves again in what turned into an 8-4 win for the good guys.
?(The Mott game) started out really ugly, but gradually we started to put the puck in the net,? said Johns ‘We are glad to get the victory.?
Junior Goalie Nolan Cesario made ten saves for the win. The Wolves outshot the Corsairs 41-14, allowing only one shot in the first period, unfortunately the one shot tied the game 1-1.
Aside from Johns, who had one assist to go with his three goals, and Chartrand, who had a goal and two assists in the game, the Wolves got two goals and two assists from senior defenseman Alex Handley; two goals and an assist from senior forward Mike Fogg; two goals from Morin; two goals and an assist from senior forward Eric Paddison; and two assists apiece by junior forwards Chris Degen and Brandon Gibson, and senior defenseman Steve Eddy.
The Wolves play next against their toughest league competition: Birmingham schools. The team they tied for first in the league last year. The showdown is at the Detroit Skate Center at 8 p.m. on Dec.9.
