From last week’s column I received lots of reader response. Many thanked me for it, other’s disagreed with my logic or added more thoughts to consider. I want to thank everybody who wrote, and not just the ones who agreed with my column. It was a hard column to pen. I am sure it was harder to read, and still harder yet to respond to.
I wanted to thank everybody who wrote, especially those who disagreed.
It takes more courage to stand up and support a view that might not be popular. And, I think it is a shame we here in the good ol’ US of A, are so divided we cannot disagree without calling those who disagree with us evil. We are so divided the little thing called civil discourse has left the building. Maybe Civil Discourse is living in Kalamazoo, working at a Burger King with Elvis. Whatever the case, civil discourse ain’t here (take a look at the bullying going on by Clarkston School superintendent to the Clarkston News in this week’s paper . . .)
Thank you all for reading, writing, and caring enough to be involved in your community. We must all be watchdogs and question . . . it is our heritage.
So without further eloquence . . . the following e-mail is from someone I have know for many year’s. The writer wishes to remain annonymous, so it shall be.

Mr. Rush, I understand your frustration. I have attended many meetings in the last few months. I did this not because I wanted to spend my evenings watching board members disrespect the Supervisor and the public, but because I wanted to really see and hear the issues at hand.
The trustees interrupt, take over the meeting, speak long-windedly over and over. Much of this could be controlled by Mr. Wagner, however, the vindictiveness carried over from the past election, is the basis of the problem meetings and frustration at Township Hall. We have Mr. Carson, who tries to be a voice of reason, constantly put-down and insulted by the trio who march in lock-step.
We have two trustees calling employees and asking for detailed information without permission from the department heads. The employees are intimidated by the two and cannot perform their work in a peaceful atmosphere. The entire blame cannot rest on Mr. Wagner.
In your view, if Mr. Wagner would step down, can you imagine the choosing of another supervisor by this board? It would be an unbelievable spectacle. We are all frustrated and disappointed. The black-eye of the recall committee with their half-truths and badgering of library patrons is not something we would have imagined in Independence Township. I personally believe that if there are not enough signatures collected this will die down and MAYBE the board will try to actually accomplish something. They will not have this recall effort looming over employees, trustees, officers and the residents.
Did you stop to think that the previous board under Mr. Wagner had several accomplishments. They were civil and board meetings were interesting to hear and watch instead of stomach-wrenching. They did not last all night either. After reading your column, I wondered if you spoke to Mr. Wagner, if you actually watched the meetings, if you spoke to Trevor (the Clarkston News reporter) who sits politely through this dreadful stuff, did you speak to other township employees besides Mr. Turk, did you speak to Mr. Carson or any of the trustees.
How did you come to the conclusions?
Could it be the two new trustees?
Maybe they should resign?
Mr. Wagne was elected by a very large margin. The nit-picking, the hostility, the rudeness, the intimidation didn’t exist before their election. Think about it!!
They seem to conspire to take all responsibility from the supervisor position. When you have time check on the HR person and the hours spent on the job and accomplishments so far.
