Timber! Village trees coming down

Shouts of timber will soon be heard throughout the Village of Oxford as some trees that are in pretty bad shape come crashing to the ground.
Last week, council awarded a $5,165 contract to the Richmond-based Active Tree Experts, Inc. to remove 15 trees and six tree stumps located in the village right-of-way.
Several of the trees were damaged in recent storms. Others are just deteriorating.
Due to budget limitations, only trees whose conditions were rated as ‘very poor? will be removed right now.
The village has a list of 30 trees and stumps to removed on Park, W. Burdick, Dennison, Mechanic, Crawford, Hovey, Pontiac, First, Glaspie and Broadway streets.
The nine trees determined to be in ‘poor? and ‘fair? condition are expected to be addressed in the spring, subject to available funds.
Manager Joe Young noted the owner of 91 Dennison St. offered to reimburse the village for the removal of his ‘fair? condition tree. The cost is $400.
