On Nov. 19 the Atlas Township Fire Department added an all-terrain vehicle to their fleet of firefighting equipment. Powered by a three cylinder Kabota engine, the tank style tracks are designed to cross rough, wet country to extinguish fires or conduct rescues.
‘The ATV carries a 75 gallon tank and pump for grass fires in remote areas,? said Fred Forys, township fire chief. ‘There is also room to hold a stoke or gurney in the event we need to transport a victim out of a rough area. There are a lot of areas in the township and in neighboring communities that are difficult to get to.?
The ATV was purchased from New Holland of Burton for at a cost of $29,000.
