Brandon Twp.- From Aug. 26-Sept. 7, the township library will be closed for renovations.
“We haven’t done anything since the building opened in 2000,” said Rebecca Higgerson, library director. “I’m very proud of the fact that we’ve been very fiscally responsible, and we’ve been able to put money away in our general fund, so we decided it was time we could spend some of that money in a fiscally sound way.”
Renovations for the library will include painting all of the public and staff areas, carpeting the public and staff areas, and taking out the slate tile in the entry.
“It (the tile) makes a lot of noise,” said Higgerson. “When you’re rolling a book cart over it, you can hear it through the whole library.

And when we’ve tried to keep it clean through the winters, it is just all over the place, and then the salt tracks in through the library. So we’re going to put in what’s called walk-off carpet, which is supposed to clean all that stuff off of your shoes so it doesn’t get tracked everywhere.”
During the renovations, patrons can still place and receive holds but should expect delays. Holds may be picked up Sept. 3-7 from 2-6 p.m.
Also, the dropbox for returns will still be open, though no fines will be accrued during the renovation. For services such as printing, faxing, copying, scanning and wifi, other local libraries should offer most, if not all of those services. Fall program registration will also start on Sept. 9 at 9 a.m., and programs will start on Sept. 30.
While patrons can still use Overdrive of the Libby App for downloadable ebooks and eaudiobooks, the library is asking donations be held until the library reopens.
Also, the programs at Sashabaw Meadows Clubhouse will continue, and other staff members will be out in the community for outreach programs, and some outreach programs will be held with the schools.
“We’re very excited on behalf of the community to refresh the library and invite them back in when it’s done,” said Higgerson.
