For sports related equipment collecting dust and taking up space, the sports equipment swap is the answer. The inaugural event will be Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 11 a.m. ? 3 p.m. on the Clintonwood Park soccer fields.
Independence Township Parks and Recreation wants to support area residents to keep active. One of the barriers can often be the expense of athletic equipment, especially for kids because they grow so fast.
‘This is a great way for a child or even an adult to get introduced to a new sport. Buying used equipment is smart spending, especially when you are trying out a new activity,? said Mike Turk, Director of Independence Township Parks and Recreation.
For those interested in selling equipment, they need to pre-register a table by calling ITPR at 248-625-8223 by Friday, May 25. The cost is $10 per table, which is under a 10-square foot tented space.
Equipment can be related to almost any sports or recreational activity including: baseball, golf, soccer, tennis, football, hockey, bowling, fishing, camping, basketball, snow shoeing, horseback riding, archery, badminton, cycling, snowmobiling, boating, kayaking, canoeing, ATV’s and exercise equipment.
Those interested in selling skis, snowboards or related equipment, are asked to use the ski swap at Pine Knob Ski Resort in the fall.
Prices will be marked by the seller and payment should be made directly to the seller. Limited parking will be available from 11am-noon due to opening day of youth baseball and softball. Opening ceremonies for those sports begin at 10 a.m.
‘This is a great idea and a fun way for families to share used equipment and network together to afford to keep their children active,? said Lisa McCoy, Recreation Specialist for ITPR.
