A 21-year-old Brandon Township woman was arraigned on Tuesday on a charge of felony larceny in a building after she attempted to cash a check for $1,632 that she stole from her employer.
Kristen N. Gallus, 21, was video arraigned on Aug. 7 by 51st District Court Judge Richard D. Kuhn, Jr. A preliminary exam conference is set for 8:30 a.m., Aug. 20, in front of 51st District Court Judge Phyllis McMillen.
According to police reports, a Brandon deputy was dispatched Aug. 3 to Oxford Bank, 345 S. Ortonville Road, for a report of fraud. Bank employees said a white female, later identified as Gallus, had attempted to cash a check written out to ‘cash? for $1,632.
Gallus initially used an expired driver’s license, saying her wahlet had been stolen. When the employees refused to cash it, she then said she might have her license in her car. She returned with a valid license, but her signature didn’t match. She told the bank teller she had a wrist injury and also that she was cashing the check to pay for her probation.
Bank employees said Gallus willingly gave them the check and her ID to be photocopied. After being refused again, she left.
The bank in Clarkston that the check was originally drawn from contacted the check writer, the owner of a home for the elderly in Waterford, and confirmed the same check had been stolen. Gallus was employed at the home and the owner said she had kept her employed, even after Gallus? felony conviction for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder stemming from a March 24 attack on a 21-year-old woman in the Clarkston Lakes Mobile Home Park.
Gallus confessed to taking the check and said she knew it was not hers.
