Trespassing arrests at Skate Park

Ortonville- The sign at the Village Skate Park reads ‘Closed,? but the message was still a bit unclear for two men cited for trespassing in the park on June 29.
The incident followed by three days a 5-0 vote by the council to close the park following complaints by neighbors of profanity, noise, drug and alcohol use and more.
A Brandon deputy found the 17-year-old and 19-year-old brothers inside the park, where a ‘Closed? sign was posted and the fence allowing entry was shut. The deputy asked if they could read and both answered, ‘yes.? They said someone told them it was OK to scale the fence and they saw no problem with it. The deputy asked them to exit and explained they could not enter an area that was fenced and locked. He told them about the problems that had caused the park to be closed.
The 17-year-old became enraged, according to the police report. He climbed the fence, threw down his skateboard and began to argue. The deputy told the brothers he was the one who had warned them in the past to leave after closing and they were trespassing. The 19-year-old was given a trespassing citation and let go.
The younger brother was arrested for trespassing, placed in the patrol car and taken to the substation, where his mother was called to come pick him up. When she arrived, she asked the deputy why he had not taken her son to jail. She said she’d been having problems with him for some time and she would have preferred he be taken there.
