Ortonville- In an effort to ensure the safety of trick-or-treating children, the village council has unanimously voted to close all or parts of some village roads for an hour on Halloween.
Crescent Hill Drive, Schoolhouse Street, Cedar Street between Mill and Ball streets, and Church Street between Mill and Ball streets will be closed from 6-7 p.m., Oct. 31, the designated time for trick-or-treating in the village.
Parents are encouraged to park their cars and walk with their children rather than following them in their cars. Parking is available at the Old Mill, the municipal lot at Pond and Mill streets, along Mill Street and along South Street.
The village council will also sponsor a traditional bonfire at 7 p.m. that evening, at the Ted Baker DPW Complex, at Cedar and Ball streets. Cider and doughnuts will be served.
The village is also collecting candy donations this year to distribute to residents to give out for trick-or-treaters. Donations can be dropped off until noon, Oct. 31 at the village office, 476 Mill St. Village office hours are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Candy must be individually wrapped.
