Troopers recalled to Groveland Post

The Groveland Township Post will now have two troopers recalled to duty after an announcement last week.
Sgt. Lynn Walker, from the Michigan State Police Groveland Township Post, said that Swartz Creek native Trooper Jeffery Rodgers and Saginaw native Trooper Michael Leddy, both graduates of the 2008-121 Trooper Recruit School, will join the post on Jan. 11.
Statewide, 28 laid-off Michigan State Police troopers will be recalled using federal funds available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. One hundred troopers were laid-off on June 28, 2009, which included three troopers from the Groveland Township Post, members of the 2008-121 Trooper Recruit School.
With the reinstatement, the total number of troopers at the Groveland Post will now be ten, said Lt. Lynn Walker, MSP Groveland Post.
In November 2009 MSP officials announced that 55 troopers will be recalled statewide who were laid off last summer. However, the Groveland Township Post, did not receive any additional officers at that time.
The cuts which prompted the layoffs stem from a $349 million cut from the current state budget last year. Included on the chopping block was $1.7 million from the Michigan State Police budget.
Troopers from the Groveland Township Post respond to calls in Rose and Holly townships, and support of other law enforcement, in addition to covering I-75.
