Tuesday night meetings kept short

A light agenda faced the Orion Township Board of Trustees Tuesday night after a couple of expected items were left off. A few miles away, a public hearing went on as scheduled.
A couple of residents expressed disappointment that both the Friendship Park investigation and Elkhorn Lake wetlands issue were not discussed. The board had given indication that both items would be on the agenda during their Jan. 7 meeting.
Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said the park investigation was not yet completed, which is why any discussion on the topic was postponed.
With regards to the Elkhorn Lake matter, he noted that the township had a wetlands expert involved, but she was unable to attend the meeting. It will likely come before the board again in February.
The board had hoped to discuss both issues, but these developments from the last meeting forced them to leave both off of the agenda.
Meanwhile, a public hearing was held Tuesday night in Auburn Hills on the proposed Oakland Heights Landfill expansion.
The hearing included presentations by the Department of Environmental Quality and a landfill representative. Only one member of the public commented afterwards.
The DEQ will accept public comments in writing until Jan. 28. Written comments may be e-mailed to morrowg@michigan.gov.
Look for a recap of the hearing in next week’s Lake Orion Review.
