Oxford Township sewer customers will be receiving two less bills each year, but don’t get too excited because the amounts will remain the same.
Last week, township officials voted 7-0 to start the ordinance amendment process so sewer customers living outside the village are billed twice a year as opposed to four times.
Instead of paying a quarterly charge of $33.50 per Residential Equivalent Unit (i.e. the estimated average sewer usage of a single family home), sewer customers would pay $67 twice a year under this change.
‘I like this idea,? said Supervisor Bill Dunn.
Treasurer Joe Ferrari proposed the change as a way to save money and administrative time.
According to Clerk Curtis Wright, the quarterly billings currently cost the township approximately $800 in postage, between $42.50 and $63.50 for printing plus the two-to-four days worth of labor by township employees preparing the statements for mailing.
The township’s decision will eliminate the January 1 and July 1 sewer billings.
Customers would only receive sewer bills on April 1 and October 1.
However, before this change can take effect, the township’s sewer ordinance must be amended, which involves publishing a public notice and conducting two public readings before it can be adopted by the board.
