Brandon Twp.-The Brandon School Board accepted the resignation of two longtime teachers at the May 10 school board meeting.
Margaret Hall earned a Bachelor of Arts from Central Michigan University in History, with minors in Art and Political Science. She also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Social Studies, with a minor in art plus a 30 hour continuing Certification in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University.
In 1961, Hall began teaching at Cherry Hill High School in Inkster, Mich. She then taught in the Royal Oak, Waterford and Pontiac school districts before starting at Brandon Middle School in 1975. She moved to Brandon High School in 1984 where she currently teaches art.
During her tenure, Hall participated in many professional learning activities including North Central Accreditation, Blue Ribbon School Accredition, mentoring new teachers, basketball coach, chairperson for National Scholastic Art Awards, BEA Building representative, and teacher liaison with the Brandon Board of Education. In March 2004, Hall was selected among 64 teachers to participate in the 17th annual Oakland County Outstanding Teacher of the Year program.
Hall is married with three adult children, and plans to travel during her retirement.
‘I’ve grown to know students in different ways over the years,? says Hall. ‘Students have impacted me as much as I’ve impacted them.?
Hall says students have stayed about the same since she began teaching in the 1960s, although today there are far more single family households.
‘I’ve become more of a counselor now than ever,? adds Hall. ‘I’ve been with many of these kids every school day for four years’I’m going to miss these kids.?
Liane Falkenburg has worked in the Brandon School District as a teacher for more than 28 years. She taught five years in a New York school district before coming to the Brandon School District in 1983 as a fifth grade teacher at H.T. Burt. She then transferred to Harvey-Swanson Elementary as a third grade teacher.
‘Mrs. Falkenburg has been an important member of our staff,? said Helen Clemetsen, Harvey-Swanson elementary principal. ‘Her organizational skills and resourcefulness in technology have greatly enriched the lives of her students through the years. She will be greatly missed.?
Falkenburg is a State University of Oneonta, NY graduate and received a Master’s Degree in Reading from Oakland University. She is married and has two sons, David and Steven who both live with their families in California. She hopes to spend her retirement traveling and possibly relocating to California.
