Brandon Twp.- A 50-year-old township man was arrested for felonious assault, but avoided an even more serious charge when police arrived before the matter escalated.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, Brandon deputies responded to the 4700 block of Stanton Road at 5:18 p.m., June 12 for an assault complaint and a victim requiring medical attention.
The complainant said the suspect, who lives about a mile away from him on Trillium, and the victim, a 64-year-old friend of his who resides in Livonia, were at his Stanton Road home working on vehicles. The victim and suspect exchanged words on how to fix the motorcycle. The suspect then left. The complainant said the suspect called and asked for the victim’s address so he could go ‘blow his head off.? The complainant said he didn’t take the suspect seriously and left his home to go to the store. While he was gone, the suspect returned and attacked the victim in the garage of the Stanton residence. The victim, who is disabled, said the suspect hit and choked him to the point where he nearly lost consciousness and he was afraid the suspect was going to kill him.
The complainant’s wife said she was in the house putting groceries away when the suspect entered the house and gave her a gun. She didn’t know whose gun it was, so she went outside and saw the victim, who told her to call 9-1-1. She instead called her husband, who arrived back at the residence and saw his wife sitting on the front porch with the victim, whose face was swollen and he was bleeding. The suspect was sitting in his truck. Fearing a problem, the complainant retrieved his own gun out of the garage and asked the suspect if he beat the victim, to which the suspect answered ‘Yes.? The complainant then ordered the suspect to leave. After some argument, the suspect unloaded some equipment and left.
Police located the suspect at his home, where he admitted he’d called the complainant and said he wanted to ‘blow (the victim’s) head off? and acknowledged that he’d put the victim in a headlock. When he noticed the victim was wearing a gun, the suspect admitted taking the gun out of the holster and pointing it at the victim, who had a valid CPL. He said he then gave the gun to the complainant’s wife. The deputy asked the suspect if he knew the victim was handicapped and he said he knew he had ‘a clubbed hand.?
The deputies observed the victim gasping for air, bleeding from his right arm, and with several red cut marks to the right side of his face. He also had scars typical of major surgery on the front of his torso. In the garage, several dime-sized blood droplets were found between a yellow truck and the outer wall, as well as a blood trail from the garage up the front sidewalk, through the living room, and ending at the kitchen table where the victim sat.
The suspect had two cuts on his left leg, where he said the victim kicked him.
The victim was treated by Brandon Fire Department medics and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The victim’s gun, a .357 magnum revolver, was cleared in LEIN and logged as evidence.
The suspect was arrested for felonious assault and taken to the Oakland County Jail.
