Twp. to employ ‘on call? inspectors for elections

The township board agreed last week to employ ‘on call? election inspectors for the Aug. 5 and Nov. 4 elections.
Inspectors would be paid $25 per diem for agreeing to be available to work those elections in emergency, even if they weren’t called until Election Day. Those called in to work would receive the normal rate of compensation for either a half day ($65 for eight hours) or a full day ($130 for 16 hours).
The board authorized up to 10 ‘on call? workers per election, at the recommendation of Clerk Jill Bastian, who said the practice has been used elsewhere in the state with success.
She said it will ensure that precincts are adequately staffed to assist voters and will help keep costs down, as they won’t be employing excess staff.
