Both the boys and girls varsity bowling teams are off to a strong start this season.
The boys? record currently sits at 5-0, while the girls are 4-0. Both teams recently beat Clarkston to keep their streaks alive.
This year’s boys? teams consists of five seniors, one junior and two sophomores.
‘They don’t all have a lot of varsity experience, but (they) do know their way around a bowling lane,? said Head Coach JR Lafnear. ‘We will be a very competitive team in every event we participate in.?
The boys are hoping’for a third consecutive OAA title in league play and a’third straight trip to the state finals.
Lafnear is looking to his co-captains Luke Delong and Eric Armbruster to lead the team.
Returning varsity bowlers Christian and Tanner Cartner, seniors David Staser, Carter Anolick, Tristan Boice and junior Will Fallon will round out the squad.
‘This team’has a chance to’be very strong,? Lafnear said. ‘We can bowl any one of them and get a big game. The trick will be getting them consistent on a day-in-day-out basis. Each bowler has the skills to help the team be successful.?
On the girls? side, Lafnear said this year’s team has the ‘ability to be very good and even great.?
‘They have the experience and talent to win the league and any tournament they enter,? he added.
Lafnear said co-captains junior Hannah Farmer and senior MacKenzie Janssen will have a talented group to lead with senior Anne Johnson, who will be joined by juniors Abby Pappas and Megan Kessler along with freshman Claire Sandstrom.
According to Lafnear, the’girls?’narrowly missed the’OAA title and will be poised to compete for it again.
‘The sky is the limit for this squad. If they focus and do the work, the success will come for them. They will field a strong lineup every time out,? he added. ‘They have strong teams to compete with, but have the ability to get it done.’I really look forward to’watching how they compete.?
