The Oakland County Quilt Guild is sponsoring a quilt show/contest ‘Quilt Celebration 2004? on April 16-17. It takes place at First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, 255 East Scripps Road.
Over 250 quilts will be displayed along with a Star Raffle Quilt. Sixteen design quilts from a Midland quilters group call JNKS will also be on display.
Many quilt shops and other vendors will be in attendance selling their wares. Refreshments and door prizes round out the event.
The special guest lecturer and teacher for the show is Harriet Hargrave. She is a master of machine quilting.
Having written several books, printed two successful lines of reproduction fabrics, helped develop a line of natural fiber batting, Hargrave is well known in the world of quilting. She is giving a lecture on Friday evening and teaching classes on Friday and Saturday.

The guild’s goal is to promote and preserve the art of quilting. Over the past five years, members have made and donated quilts to different charitable organizations such as Wellness House in Detroit, Haven, Children’s Hospital, Children’s Village, Crittenton Hospital, Rochester Police Department.
In addition, the guild also has a ‘Story Book Quilt Collection.? Members take children’s literature featuring quilting and create quilts from the story to go along with the book. This collection is available to schools, scout troops, public libraries, museums and others free of charge
