Verizon connects with township

Brandon Twp.- Verizon Wireless customers, rejoice.
The township board approved the company as an ‘other provider? on the township’s cell tower located off Seymour Lake Road during their March 3 meeting.
Currently, the township has three wireless providers on the tower. Each carrier pays roughly $23,000 per year to the township. Now, Verizon Wireless will add antennas to the tower with the goal of providing service to many residents who have complained of a lack of connectivity in that area.
Their agreement stipulates the same lease terms as the other providers with a few revisions, including the annual increase in lease charge will be 4 percent, instead of up to 4 percent. Several indemnification and insurance clauses were also altered, including one that allows the carrier to hold the township liable in cases of negligence or willful misconduct in regards to the tower.
