Friday, April 10, village police arrested a man they believe is responsible for armed robbery and home invasion.
Lieutenant Harold Rossman and Officer Al Williams took the unnamed suspect into custody after finding a ‘very large? kitchen knife on his person at a Sunoco on M-24.
‘This demonstrates the dangers that police often roll up on,? said Police Chief Jerry Narsh. ‘Although in this case, no one was injured, it could have gone seriously in the other direction.?
Police received a call at 3:38 a.m. Friday morning about three men fighting in the gas station. When Rossman and Williams arrived on the scene, they found two men struggling with a third whom they pinned to the ground.
The men holding the other advised officers that the man on bottom had a knife and was allegedly robbing them.
The investigation and interviews revealed the two men were victims of an attempted armed robbery and home invasion that began in Orion Township.
The suspect reportedly told the two men he had a gun and to drive him to Sunoco. The men were then instructed to withdraw money from an ATM.
The two realized the perpetrator had a knife instead of a gun, and were able to subdue him until police arrived.
Because the original crime occurred in the township, village officers turned the suspect and the recovered weapon over to Oakland County Sheriffs.
‘We’re very thankful no one was injured here, officers or victims,? Narsh said.
