Looking for a quaint neighborhood bistro with a European flavor in which to enjoy cocktails, fine wine and a savory gourmet dinner, all at reasonable prices?
Look no further than 12 S. Washington St., the home of Victoria’s Delights, owned and operated by namesake Victoria Connolly.
Victoria’s Delights is a tastefully decorated haven in downtown Oxford where local oenophiles (wine lovers) can gather to sample and imbibe 24 premium wines ? all sold by glass and/or bottle ? from France, Australia, Italy, Chile and California. Last year, Victoria’s Delights hosted to two successful and quite popular wine tastings.
The next tasting is scheduled for Monday, April 28. Tickets will be $35 per person and seating is limited so reserve your spots in advance.
As with the first two events, patrons will have the opportunity to sample six wines ? three reds and three whites ? while feasting on scrumptious hors d’oeuvres ? personally prepared by Connolly ? and imported cheeses. Patrons will also receive an education about what they’re imbibing from an expert either from the winery or the importer.
Tickets for the tasting must be purchased in advance as seating is limited.
For those who prefer an adult beverage with a little more kick than wine, Victoria’s offers a premium bar with such favorites as Stoli, Absolute, Bacardi and Tanqueray, all waiting to become the perfect cocktail.
But man (or woman) cannot live by wine and spirits alone. That’s why Victoria’s offers an exciting, tantalizing and quite affordable gourmet menu that changes with the seasons. ‘We offer some lighter fare in the hot weather and hearty soups and entrees in the winter by incorporating fresh seasonal produce and specialty items,? Connolly said.
Diners can enjoy such delectable entrees as Champagne Poached Salmon, Swordfish Vera Cruz (char-grilled with mango salsa), Seafood Ravioli with Lobster Cream Sauce, Chicken and Asparagus Crepes with Bernaise Sauce, or a variety of quiches, baked fresh every day.
For diners seeking a more old-fashioned, hearty meal, Connolly recommends the Sizzler Steak ? an 8-ounce marinated sirloin with sauteed mushrooms and onions, served with redskin potatoes and garden fresh vegetables.
All entrees include a cup of delicious soup or a fresh tossed salad. In addition to the regular dinner menu items, Victoria’s offers five specials that change on a nightly basis. Specials include crab cakes on the weekends, veal Parmesan and beef tips with mushrooms.
‘Everyone loves the crab cakes. It’s one of our most popular entrees,? Connolly said. Call Victoria’s hot-line, 969-9002, after 4 p.m. to check the specials.
After dinner, be sure to sample the Maple Walnut Bread Pudding, a house specialty served warm with caramel sauce and whipped cream.
As always, all lunches and dinners are served in an intimate setting with seating for 40, tasteful European decor and extra little touches on each table such as fresh flowers, linen napkins, tablecloths and pepper mills.
‘It’s perfect for everything from a quiet family meal to a romantic rendezvous to a business dinner.?
The restaurant’s Victorian patterned, tin ceiling dates back to the 1870s when the building was Farmer’s State Bank. ‘It’s a wonderful conversation piece,? Connolly said. Don’t forget to check out the original bank vault.
Don’t feel like eating in the restaurant? No problem. Victoria’s offers carry-out for all menu items.
After you enjoy a one-of-a-kind gourmet dining experience, perhaps you’d like to share Victoria’s food your family and friends. Have no fear, Victoria’s offers a full catering service that’s upscale, completely professional and out of this world. Connolly said she can cater weddings, bridal and baby showers, graduations, birthdays, holidays and corporate affairs.
Victoria’s also hosts bimonthly ‘Afternoon Teas,? at which patrons can enjoy a variety of exotic and traditional teas served with tea sandwiches, scones and other teatime favorites.

Victoria’s Delights

Yearning for something off the beaten path? Something charming and local? Something gourmet, but not expensive? Something unique in a homogenized world?
Then look no further than downtown Oxford’s own quaint European-inspired neighborhood bistro ? Victoria’s Delights.
Over the past eight years, the popular 12 S. Washington St. eatery has evolved from a small 12-seat deli to a 40-seat full service restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner complete with cocktails and a diverse selection of fine wines.
Owner Victoria Connolly knows she couldn’t have done any of it without the support of her ‘regulars.?
‘I have the best regular customers you can imagine. They are the key to our success,? she said.

Which would your rather have for lunch ? Chicken and Asparagus Crepes served with Hollandaise sauce or a Number Three off some drive-though menu?
Transform dinner from the usual nightly meal into an anticipated event by ordering one of Victoria’s Delights? tantalizing specials created by Chef Andre Meersseman, a new addition to Oxford’s only bistro and 1995 Lake Orion graduate with many years of restaurant experience under his belt.
How does a Flat Iron Steak with wild mushrooms and Jack Daniel’s sauce sound? Or how about Traverse City Pork Chops ? two boneless pork chops with an apple cider reduction, sweet onions, Granny Smith apples, Traverse City dried cherries and toasted walnuts.
Indulge yourself with Chef Meersseman’s Chicken Wellington ? boneless, skinless chicken breast combined with wild mushrooms and pesto, and baked in puff pastry with a cabernet demi glace.
