Ortonville — Beginning in the new year, the Ortonville Village Council meeting location will change to the Brandon Township hall, 395 Mill St.
“They will continue to meet on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m., but the location was more about logistics than anything,” said Village Manager Ryan Madis. “We value the work OTV puts into recording the village council meetings, and we have discussed the challenges of Old Town Hall in creating quality recordings that are easy for the public to hear and watch.”
The Brandon Township offices are already wired for lighting and sound in the meeting room, and the move is intended to help expand public access and make meetings easier to attend, watch and listen to via OTV after the meetings.
“Old Town Hall is great for a lot of things, but being a ‘one size fits all’ can create challenges with lighting, sound and general public access for village council meetings,” he said. “We appreciate the help of the Brandon Township staff, especially clerk Roselyn Blair and her staff, in scheduling the use of their meeting space and making it available to village council.”
Due to Brandon township meetings, early voting and election training, the village council will still meet in Old Town Hall at least three times in 2024.
“It may be confusing, but we’ll try to go above and beyond in posting and notifying of the meeting’s location,” he said. “The village staff will include reminders on agendas for the time and location of the next meeting, to help navigate the change.”
Other village organizations, such as the zoning board of appeals, the planning commission, and the downtown development authority, will continue to use Old Town Hall for their meetings.
