Ortonville-The village’s future look will soon take shape as work on a master plan begins.
At a pre-bid informational meeting May 30, Village Manager Ed Coy, Main Street Manager Janine Saputo, Downtown Development Authority President Dave Bonner, and Charlotte Burckhardt, principal planner for Oakland County, met with six firms interested in bidding on the master plan.
‘It was a meeting to acquaint potential bidders with the village and its needs so they can write a better bid for the master plan,? said Coy.
The master plan, he explained, dictates future land use’essentially a blueprint for village growth. It is the basis for a new zoning ordinance, which will be rewritten after the master plan is done.
The due date for bidders? proposals on the master plan is June 15. The project is slated to begin Aug. 6, and will take about one year to complete. The Master Plan Task Force consists of Coy, Bonner, the seven village planning commission members, and one as yet unnamed DDA member. Several meetings and presentations will be held to seek public input on the master plan.
The current master plan is 27 years-old. Coy expects a new one to cost less than $50,000.
