Webco Press owner Wes Smith knows how important it can be to keep up with technology.
But, equally important to him is a well-trained and dedicated work force.
Webco Press is one of southeast Michigan’s premier printing companies and Smith is proud of his 50 full and part-time employees.
‘It’s not the technology or the equipment, it’s the people,? said Smith, who has been involved with the company since 1972 when it was the commercial printing division of the Lapeer County Press.
‘Our people are connected to the customer,? Smith said. ‘We believe in a partner-style relationship with our customers.?
The sense of partnership has carried Webco a customer list of more than 75 businesses, printing about 150 publications, ranging from weekly newspapers to college newspapers, several ethnic and foreign language papers and publications for advertising agencies and retailers.
In addition to a top notch staff, Webco uses top of the line equipment and continually improves its services.
Between 2000 and 2002, the company expanded both printing and mailing capacity; and upgraded it’s digital imaging capabilities to facilitate a growing customer demand.
‘Our customers will be able to send and receive print files now via the Internet,? explained Smith.
Also, the company offers in-house bindery services.
This past year, Webco printed 38 million items and mailed about 15 million. The company used more than 5 million pounds of newsprint, but is environmentally conscious and recycles its scrap newsprint.
With quality people using excellent equipment at the forefront of the business, Webco will continue to grow from its Lapeer base.
