Kickers finished last week the same as they did their first week of play – but what the scores didn’t show was more passion on the field.
The boys lost to Detroit Catholic Central on Aug. 31, 2-1. The lone goal for the Wolves was scored by junior Garret Gotaas during the second half.
“It was a great shot,” said Coach Chuck Lawhorn.
Goalie Nathan Gill finished the night with ten saves. He kept DCC scoreless in the first half with seven saves.
Senior Jarrett Kersten tied the score against University of Detroit – Jesuit on Thursday night.
The Wolves were awarded a penalty kick with 1:39 remaining in the first half. Kersten and the goalie went against each other. As the goalie went in one direction, Kersten shot the other direction and the ball nailed the back of the net.
The Wolves carried the momentum into the second half controlling most of the play and taking more shots on the goal.
“We played much better the second half,” said Lawhorn. “We came out with a lot more passion and communicated a lot better. We moved the ball with a lot of pace. We made them chase a little bit.”
Lawhorn saw a lot of scoring opportunities and the boys could build on from the game.
“I believe this is the best we have played to this point,” he said. “But this isn’t the best soccer that we can play. It’s an opportunity to realize the potential of what we can do.”
The boys overall record is now 3-2-2.
They played Adams on Tuesday and head to Waterford Kettering on Thursday. They come back home and host Troy on Sept. 14.
“Hopefully we can meet our potential next week,” said Lawhorn.
The JV team begins at 5:30 p.m. and varsity follows.
