The rain stopped long enough on Thursday night for Kickers not to have to worry about a delay from lightning and thunder.
They did have to worry about stopping Lahser’s offense as the Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer team lost, 1-0.
“I don’t think it was our best effort,” said Coach Chuck Lawhorn. “We had a lot of turnovers and didn’t move the ball very much. Lahser is a fantastic team. They came in here and played really well and moved the ball really well.”
The first half was a battle for both teams. Both struggled to get past each other’s defense. Lahser snuck three shots on goal past the Wolves.
The last one found its way into Clarkston’s net from the foot of Zach Sequin with 15 seconds left in the first half.
Goalie Tim Rogers had ten saves and Clarkston made two shots on goal during the second half.
“They need to realize they have to work harder to get the ball,” said Lawhorn. “They need to work harder in practice. There are a lot of things we could have done better and I know they are capable of pushing that.”
The boys lost to Troy on September 14, 1-0. The Colts scored in the first half.
“Defense as a whole played well,” said Lawhorn. “They were really organized and communication was better as a team. Lahser’s game was a let down coming off Troy because we had a great effort in the game. We were moving in the right direction and building on something.”
The boys played Stoney Creek on Tuesday and head to Rochester Adams on Thursday and Troy-Athens next Tuesday.
“We spent a lot of energy in the Troy game,” said Lawhorn. “I am sure when we come back this week it will be better.”
Both away games begin at 5:30 p.m. with the JV team, varsity follows at 7 p.m.
The boys now have a 4-5-2 overall record and 0-2-2 in OAA Red.
“I think we will get it together before the season is out,” said Lawhorn. “Hopefully have a good run for districts and make a good showing for the league.”
