Young wants to be township treasurer

Alice Young, a CPA with 32 years of experience, is a candidate for Orion Township treasurer.
Since moving to Lake Orion in 1990, she has become involved with several non-profit organizations. Young is on the governance board and serves as treasurer for the Steven J. Crowder Memorial Fund, Church Street Singers, Union Church Governing Board and is treasurer-elect of the Orion Historical Society.
She also serves on the Orion Senior Center Governance Board. Young’s a member of the Solid Waste and Recycling Committee, Friends of Orion Township Library, General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce.
She also provides pro bono services to other organizations including the Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center.
Young’s extensive experience includes Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers) where she audited various forms of businesses including municipalities and not-for-profit organizations.
She subsequently served as vice president of finance and administration in the private sector for over 12 years where she supervised accounting, administration and human resources as well as negotiated labor contracts.
Young earned her bachelor’s degree at Wayne State University where she majored in Accounting and minored in Economics. She later returned to Wayne State and earned a master’s degree in Taxation.
After she earned her MST degree, Young was asked to teach at Wayne State. She is an adjunct instructor and teaches Practice, Procedures and Ethics in the master’s program. She’s also taught at Oakland Community College and Baker College.
