The Clarkston Select Soccer Club (CSSC) is a competitive youth soccer club, home-based in the Clarkston area, which promotes player development for both boys and girls, ages eight through 17.
Re-established in 2002, the mission of the CSSC is ‘to provide a learning environment for Clarkston area youth soccer players who seek a more competitive level of play, utilizing trained and experienced coaches which will allow players to develop their soccer skills to their highest potential, while at the same time encouraging a love for the game for both the player and the community.?
Prior to 2002, the CSSC was structured and organized under the direction of the Independence Township Parks and Recreation Department. At that time, the club had 10 teams, with only one team in the State Premier League, and was coached mostly by parent volunteers.
In the spring of 2002, the club re-organized, formed their own board of directors and became an independent select soccer club. Currently, as of 2005, the club boasts 24 teams, six of which play in the State Premier League.
Every team is coached by a licensed, experienced professional soccer coach.
‘Having licensed coaches has allowed our teams to benefit from professional, unbiased, independent quality instruction. This is especially important in the younger, developmental ages. All our club coaches follow CSSC coaching curriculum guidelines and therefore teach soccer the way it should be taught,? said Bruce Mercado, CSSC President.
All coaches are hand selected by Damian Huffer, the club’s director of coaching. Their home games are played at Clintonwood Park and Clarkston High School soccer fields.
Players are selected to teams in open tryouts, typically held in June and November of each year.
