Ortonville — During the regular meeting on Monday night, the Ortonville village council voted unanimously to appoint village resident Scott Zimmer to the Ortonville Planning Commission.
Zimmer is also the owner and operator of Prime Time Services, and has previously offered his services to the village to help paint and repair the Old Mill Museum, the Mann School House, and the Old Mill Blacksmith shop, as well as some downtown store-fronts. He was recommended to the planning commission by current commissioner Pete Burkett.
“Pete had a conversation with him and suggested that we look at him for the planning commission and said that he was interested,” said Planning Commission Chairman Bob McArthur. “We had a meeting with the village manager, myself and Scott, just in the office going over the planning commission, what it’s about, letting him know the ups and downs of the whole thing, and he filled us in on his ability and his knowledge of buildings and his true interest of the village and letting it move forward. He definitely would like to see improvements come into the village.”
Zimmer will take the vacancy left by past planning commissioner Rick McAvincy, who stepped down in June of 2024 after 17 years on the planning commission. He will serve the partial term until May of 2026, and may be reappointed at that time.
“I put a lot of heart and soul into my home, and I just feel like I have a lot to contribute,” said Zimmer. “I love this town.”
