Six Lake Orion Village Council members on April 12 decided they didn’t want to pursue any further a temporary moratorium on development in the village. Only Tom Albert said he wanted to continue on.
Some areas in the village are currently zoned differently than what the village’s new Master Plan future land use calls for. Village officials thought about calling a halt to development in these areas until a new zoning ordinance was adopted. That was expected to take about a year.
‘I think this is a negative position,? councilman Ken Van Portfliet said at the April 12 council meeting. ‘I don’t want developers to stay away.?
‘In effect, this could hold the Sagebrush (rebuilding) up,? he added.
The downtown area is currently zoned Commercial-2. The new Master Plan would have it zoned Mixed Use C.
