Oxford’s American Legion Post 108 hosted yet another successful blood drive on Friday, May 7.
Judy Ingles, who organizes the blood drives with her husband of 44 years, Gerald, reported a total of 41 pints of liquid life was collected.
Forty-five people registered to give blood in this drive, according to Ingles.
‘I try to donate pretty often,? said Oxford resident Bob Goepfert, who has the rare blood type AB-negative. ‘Lately, I’ve been donating about every eight weeks.?
Pontiac resident Jean Murad, 74, donated blood for the first time in her life.
Murad’s daughter, Oxford resident Barbara Montgomery, had previously registered to donate that day, but was unable to because she gave blood last week to help a girlfriend who has leukemia.
When Montgomery told Murad this, mom volunteered to take her place.
‘I always wanted to (give blood),? Murad said.
Murad said she had never donated blood before because of a prior medical condition that prevented it. That condition is no longer a problem.
