Beginning May 22, every fourth Saturday through September in downtown Oxford will be ‘Village Market Day.?
Sponsored by the Promotions Committee of the Oxford Community Development Authority, the event will feature a diverse selection of vendors selling a wide variety of items from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the northeast quadrant parking lot behind the Oxford Antique Mall.
Produce, flowers, plants, antiques, and both new and used items will be available for bargain hunters to peruse.
Some of the vendors slated for this Saturday include Mary Loveless with vegan homemade soups and baby products, Sheryl Ross of Mosaics and More, Chris Anglebrandt with antiques and jewelry, Melissa Kempski of Tastefully Simple Foods, Contours Express offering health and fitness memberships, Barb Montgomery offering flowers and general merchandise, and Jenny Wise offering furniture, plants and general merchandise.
‘It’s open to anybody with something to sell,? said Sandy Moore, project manager for the Market Day.
A Market Day was conducted in September 2003 with about 17 vendors, according to Moore.
There was such a tremendous customer response to the event, the committee decided to try it once a month this year, she said.
Moore said rental space is still available for the first Market Day of the year. The cost is $15 per space.
Rental proceeds will go toward advertising Village Market Day and financing other Promotions Committee events in the downtown, she said.
Promotions Committee Chair Suzanne Ardelan said the purpose of the Village Market Days is to ‘put the focus on the downtown area? and ‘bring people down there.?
It’s hoped these Market Days will ‘expose? people to downtown businesses and ‘encourage? them to shop their local merchants more frequently, she said.
